What we set
Sign-in cookie — keeps you signed in after you click your sign-in link. It lasts 30 days, or until you sign out.
Security cookies — protect sign-in and forms against cross-site request forgery. They last until you close your browser.
Invite cookie (dh_ref) — if you follow a friend's invite link, remembers who invited you for 30 days so you both get the referral bonus when you join.
"View as" cookie — for Deskhops staff only: lets an admin preview the site as a guest or host. Most people never get it.
On your device — we remember that you've seen our cookie notice, and partner staff's phones remember which location they scan at. These stay in your browser and aren't sent to us.
That's all. We don't use advertising cookies, and we don't track you across other websites.
We don't use analytics either.
Maps
Maps on Deskhops are shown by OpenStreetMap. When a map loads, your browser fetches it from openstreetmap.org, which sees your IP address like any website you visit. Space pages only show the general area, never a home's exact location.
Why we don't ask for consent
UK law requires consent for cookies that aren't strictly necessary. Everything above is needed for something you've asked for — staying signed in, a secure form, an invite you followed — so we show a short notice rather than asking you to accept.
If we ever add analytics or anything that isn't essential, we'll ask you first, and you'll be able to say no.
