How Deskhops works
If the answer isn't here, ask us — a real person reads every message.
Booking a space
How do I book?
Find a space on the search page, pick your date and times, and pay. Some spaces are instant book — they're confirmed as soon as you pay. Others are request to book: your card is authorised but not charged, and the host has 24 hours to accept. If they decline or run out of time, the hold is released and you're charged nothing.
Do I need an account?
Yes, but there's no password. Enter your email and we send you a link that signs you in. The link is single-use and expires.
What do I pay on top of the price shown?
Nothing. The price you see already includes our 4% guest service fee — nothing is added at checkout that you haven't already seen.
How do I get in on the day?
Your booking page has a QR code. The host scans it when you arrive, or at some venues you scan a sign yourself. The address and the host's access instructions appear once the booking is confirmed.
Can I cancel?
Yes, from your booking. What comes back depends on the policy on that listing, shown before you pay:
- Flexible — full refund up to 2 hours before.
- Moderate — full refund up to 24 hours before, half up to 2 hours before.
- Strict — full refund up to 72 hours before, half up to 24 hours before.
The space wasn't what the listing said. What now?
Tell us. There's a Report this listing link at the bottom of every space, or use the contact form. We'd rather hear about it the same day than read it in a review.
Hosting a space
What can I list?
A garden office, a spare room, a studio, a desk in a coworking space — anywhere someone could work for a few hours. Start here. Every listing is read by a person before it goes live.
What does it cost?
We take 10% of the space price. There's no listing fee and no monthly charge.
When am I paid?
At least 24 hours after you check a guest in, so there's time for either of you to raise a problem before the money moves. If nobody scans the guest in, payment goes out 24 hours after the booking ends. Stripe then sends it to your bank on their usual schedule.
Do I need insurance?
Probably, and it's your responsibility rather than ours — most home insurance doesn't cover paying visitors without a business-use extension. Our host terms explain what to check. We can't give you insurance or tax advice.
Can I turn down a booking?
If your space is request-to-book, yes — you have 24 hours to accept or decline and nothing is charged until you accept. Cancelling bookings you've already confirmed is the thing guests find hardest to forgive, and doing it repeatedly may pause your listing.
The Deskhops Pass
What is it?
Points for working. You earn 10 points per £1 you spend on a booking, and more when you check in at a partner space. Spend them on rewards.
Do points expire?
Yes — we email you before any do, with enough notice to use them.
Your account and your data
How do I delete my account?
From your account. You can also download everything we hold about you from there. Bookings you've paid for are anonymised rather than erased, because we have to keep financial records.
Who sees my details?
A host sees your first name and your booking. They never see your surname or your email address. The full picture is in our privacy policy.
